3 Doors Down is an American rock band formed in Escatawpa, Mississippi, in 1994 by three school friends – Brad Arnold, Matt Roberts and Todd Harrell. During their career, 3 Doors Down have performed with such artists as Lynyrd Skynyrd, Staind, Nickelback, Alter Bridge, Breaking Benjamin, Seether, Shinedown and Daughtry. The band has also sold over 13 million albums in the United States alone, although they had to wait for six years to release their first album. According to the band members, they started with a repertoire of four songs: 'One by Bush, one by Metallica and a couple of originals'. Brad Arnold firstly was a drummer, but he started singing full time for the band after a concert where no one else would sing except for him and he 'ended up enjoying it'.
The repertoire grew, 3 Doors Down started to perform concerts, they even recorded some demos. But the band was not known outside Mississippi unless they recorded song Kryptonite in 2000, which quickly became a huge hit (partly because of 3 Doors Down's fans, who were phoning to the different radios asking to play this song). This success has brought major labels' attention for 3 Doors Down – they signed with Republic Universal label and released their first album The Better Life. It was produced by Toby Wright, who worked with Alice in Chains and Korn. The album was sold 6 million copies in USA, with songs Loser and Duck And Run becoming huge hits. The song Be Like That was included in the soundtrack of American Pie 2 movie. Second album, Away From The Sun, was realesed in 2002 and turned out to be even more successfull, becoming four time platinum in the United States and Platinum in Australia. Two songs, Here Without You and When I'm Gone, were among most popular singles of the year.
The band continued with a live E.P. in 2003, which consisted partly of a live performance by the band on their Away From The Sun tour in Chicago. It was very successfull too, becoming gold in the USA. Also in 2003, 3 Doors Down members established their own charity The Better Life Foundation. They play annual concert titled 3 Doors Down And Friends, giving money to 'those who need it'. For example, in 2006 proceeds were donated to Hurricane Katrina survivors. Following 3 Doors Down's perpetual triumph, their third album, 2005's Seventeen Days, also became platinum with such hits as Let Me Go and Behind Those Eyes. The band performed collaboration with famous American rock and roll singer and songwriter Bob Seger on Landing In London. Finally, 3 Doors Down's eponymous fourth album appeared in stores on May 20, 2008, containing band's previously released single Citizen/Soldier, which was written as a tribute to the National Guard. The tour was scheduled to kick off in the Britain on May 30, but 3 Doors Down postponed it 'until a later date'.
